2022 December 16
It was the best of times, it was the stickiest of times, it was the age of whipped cream, they were the age of Grade 2! If you haven’t had a chance to see Mrs. Doherty and Mr. Prescott’s students throw pies at Mr. Jakob, check out the PAC Facebook page. It was really like being at a Rock Concert!
From the Staff at Valleycliffe Elementary, we hope everyone enjoys their two-week break to spend time together.
LITTLE SHOP OF WONDERS
Thank you to everyone who donated gifts and their time to the little shop of wonders. The students had a great time choosing gifts while the adults had fun watching through their eyes. Several hundred dollars was raised for Helping Hands.
Do you notice your child comes home with less clothing than they went to school with? Have you noticed how much clothing is filling the Lost and Found? Consider putting your child’s name in the clothing with Lovable Labels. 20% of your purchase will support Valleycliffe Elementary School.
- January 5th will be Sunny Chibas (ordering has closed).
- February 2nd will be Boston Pizza (ordering closes at the end of the day January 25).
Just a reminder that our hot lunch program is by donation. When you place your order, select the food items you want along with the donation amount of your choice. You can pay by PayPal, e-transfer (please indicate “hot lunch” and the student’s name in the message), or cash.

Pie The Principal
Thank you to everyone who donated new, unwrapped toys and gift cards to Community Christmas Care. Our school collected 174 items! The class that collected the most items was Mr. Prescott/Ms. Doherty's grade 2 class and as a reward, they got to throw pie at Mr. Jakob!
Here are all 4 songs the students collaborated on. The drop box links have "instruments only" versions of the songs for the kids to have - this way they can write different lyrics melodies or raps over the beats and instrumentals as they please.
In the Shine On link, there are also "stems" which are for pulling into garage band - sonic building blocks they can use to create their own music, including the stomps claps and pencils they recorded.
The Upside Down
Waving My Hands
Below is a beginner tutorial for the iPad or iPhone music app called “GarageBand” - it’s in essence the same as what the students saw their song recorded on. It’s rated for age 6 and up. There are a ton of sounds to explore and they don’t need to know how to play any instruments to be able to make songs thanks to the ‘smart’ keys and auto play feature.
Art Around the School
We want to wish a happy birthday to all of our students born in December! To celebrate, each student got to choose a book this week.
From Your Public Health Nurse- important information about immunization clinics:
Local Vancouver Coastal Health Clinics are available to provide Influenza and Covid vaccines.
Please, review your child’s immunization record and book an appointment at the Health Unit for school age vaccines that are overdue. Grade 1-3, please, ensure kindergarten entry vaccines have been done.
